This pizzeria will dish up slices prepared in a brick oven when it opens in Charlotte next week.

This New York-style pizzeria is ready for its uptown debut.

Pizzeria Sapienza CLT expects to open its doors in Fourth Ward on July 30, says owner Sal Sapienza.

It is located at 620 N. Church St.

“We feel really confident in the location,” Sapienza says, noting that the 2020 Vision Plan helped solidify his site choice.

Expect that 2,400-square-foot restaurant to have an old-school pizzeria feel with a modern and contemporary look.

It will dish up pizza by the slice. Think fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers prepared in-house and other fresh ingredients on those pies.

Slices will be cooked in a brick oven.

A slice of cheese pizza will cost $3, with specialty options priced at $3.75.

Other Italian fare such as hot subs like chicken or eggplant Parmesan, paninis and pastas will round out the menu.

“A quick grab-and-go lunch pizzeria — I think for the area we’re in, we kind of got in ahead of the curve,” Sapienza says.

The former upstate New Yorker says the uptown location was spurred by his family’s pizzeria in Albany, N.Y. His father opened the first Sapienza there in 1990, and Sal later took over the business.

Sapienza says his five-year vision includes additional locations, with timing dependent on the market.
