More than 50 companies in the Charlotte region landed on Inc.'s annual list of the 5,000 fastest-growing private firms in the nation.

Fifty-two local companies, to be exact, appear on the Inc. 5000, a roundup of the 5,000 U.S. firms posting the largest revenue growth during the past three years.

More than 50 companies in the Charlotte region landed on Inc. magazine's annual list of the 5,000 fastest-growing private firms in the nation.

Fifty-two local companies, to be exact, appear on the Inc. 5000, a roundup of U.S. firms posting the largest revenue growth during the past three years. That encompasses a wide range of sectors in the region, including energy, tech, construction and staffing industries as well as local restaurant and food-and-beverage operators like Famous Toastery and Hissho Sushi.

Inc. puts emphasis on the top 500 firms, each of which grew revenue by at least 1,000% in three years. Five are located across the Charlotte area.

Here are the 10 fastest-growing private firms locally, according to Inc., along with each's national rank, sector, 2017 revenue and three-year growth:

  • 84) Pine Gate Renewables (energy), Charlotte: $9.7 million; 3,940%
  • 312) Levvel (IT system development), Charlotte: $17.2 million; 1,574%
  • 324) Saprex (engineering), Gastonia: $4.6 million; 1,518%
  • 389) Passport (software), Charlotte: $12.3 million; 1,264%
  • 499) Quimbee (education), Charlotte: $5.1 million; 1,020%
  • 748) Independent Advisor Alliance (financial services), Charlotte: $21.4 million; 672%
  • 756) Summus Group (business products and services), Charlotte: $5.1 million; 668%
  • 813) Spangler Restoration (construction), Indian Trail: $22.9 million; 620%
  • 851) 23rd Group (construction), Charlotte: $19.7 million; 590%
  • 992) Torrent Consulting (business products and services), Charlotte: $7.4 million; 496%

Overall, the 5,000 total firms on Inc.'s list amassed a combined 2017 revenue of $206.2 billion, an increase of 158% from $79.8 billion in 2014. Their three-year revenue growth topped 75.661%, with each growing by 50% or more.
