Charlotte-based Marsh Properties has broken ground on The Edge@Sedgefield, a 263-unit apartment project located along Haverford Place on the site of a master-planned real estate project along South Boulevard, between Poindexter Drive and Marsh Road. The first units at The Edge will deliver in the spring of 2020, according to Marsh. Studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments will be part of the unit mix at The Edge, with amenities like five private courtyards, bike storage, a dog wash and off-leash area, fitness center with dedicated yoga studio, pool with a game and clubroom, and rooftop terrace and sky lounge.

The multifamily phase follows the initial project at the site, which was the development of a new retail center anchored by a 53,000-square-foot Harris Teeter that opened in June 2017. The Sedgefield project is turning the former shopping center and apartments on-site, which measures about 60 acres, to a denser mixed-use, master-planned development. Future phases are expected to include about 700 more residential units, the redevelopment of 30,000 square feet of retail and potentially up to 100,000 square feet of office. It's a project that will cost at or more than $200 million to complete.

September brought with it a mix of residential projects planned for the Charlotte region.

That includes a housing concept new to the greater Charlotte area — for-rent, one-story ranch homes and two-story townhouses that are slated for Concord — as well as several developments that received the green light at a packed Charlotte City Council zoning meeting, which had been delayed a week due to Hurricane Florence.

Check out the accompanying slideshow for a more thorough look at the latest residential projects underway and planned for the Charlotte area, as reported by CBJ staffers in September.
