GoldenHome, a China-based cabinet manufacturer, is planning an $86 million investment in a new campus at The Grounds at Concord.

A significant project is being targeted for the former Philip Morris site in Concord.

Under the code name Project Grand, it calls for 700,000 to 800,000 square feet of development on a 60-acre site at 2321 Concord Parkway South, part of The Grounds at Concord, the new name of the former cigarette plant. The project represents an $86 million investment and would create 256 jobs with an average wage of $42,525, according to city documents.

It seems likely that GoldenHome, a China-based cabinet manufacturer, is the company behind Project Grand. A description of the company filed in public documents matches the company's description from the GoldenHome website verbatim: "Project Grand is a professional provider of high-end integrated kitchen cabinets, appliance, and customized furnishings including closet systems, vanity suites, and interior doors. Project Grand specializes in R&D, manufacturing, sales, installation, and services of integrated kitchen cabinets and customized furnishings."

Multiple attempts to reach JLL, which handles leasing for the property, and Cabarrus Economic Development for more information about Project Grand — or to confirm that the company is GoldenHome — were unsuccessful.

The buildings would be developed over a five-year period and would include an operations center, product-display center, intelligent-manufacturing center and an East Coast hub warehouse.

Concord City Council will hold a hearing Thursday for an Economic Development Incentive Grant for Project Grand. The five-year grant has an estimated value of $803,515, according to the city documents.

GoldenHome was founded in Xiamen, China, in 1999 and has locations in the U.S., China, Australia and the Middle East.

Last year, the first large project at The Grounds at Concord was announced. Carvana announced in August a $33.2 million inspection and recommissioning facility that is expected to create 413 jobs over five years.
