Here's your friendly reminder to have a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich by July 13.

Sacramento's BLT Week, organized by the folks behind Bacon Fest Sacramento, kicked off today and runs through Sunday. The week includes a handful of events at local dining establishments, beginning with a July 8 party at West Sacramento's Broderick Roadhouse.

Among the other highlights: a BLT Week Lunch on the Farm that will be held July 13 at the Center for Land-Based Learning in Winters. The $50 daylong event includes breakfast at Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Co., bus transportation, lunch on the farm prepared by chef Michael Thiemann and a trip to Berryessa Brewing Co. in Winters.

A full BLT Week schedule is available online.

Sacramento had its first BLT Week in 2012, the same year that Bacon Fest began, according to organizers.

Before you hobnob with local BLT experts, remember that the sandwich's three letters don't necessarily represent all its necessary ingredients. A Bacon Wiki website notes, "Most connoisseurs would balk at calling a sandwich a BLT if it did not have mayonnaise or an acceptable substitute such as Miracle Whip, Baconnaise, Dijonnaise or (arguably) sandwich spread or creamy-style salad dressing."
