Superica is eyeing a November opening in south Charlotte after Covid-19 delayed its plans.

Superica is back on track to open in south Charlotte later this year.

Construction on that 5,900-square-foot restaurant had been delayed by the coronavirus. But, now, award-winning chef Ford Fry says to expect that location to open in November.

It is located in the Strawberry Hill development, at the corner of Sardis and Providence roads.

This marks the second location for the popular Tex-Mex brand in the Charlotte market. The first Superica opened in South End in May 2018.

“We’ve been really happy with the support from the Queen City so far and are excited to introduce a second edition,” Fry says.

He says that Strawberry Hill’s family-friendly community feel makes it a perfect fit.

Expect the restaurant to have a “come as you are” vibe with its signature margaritas and wood-grilled flavors. Think menu fare such as wood-fired steaks, crispy whole snapper and shrimp tacos  — with tortillas made in house. Rounding out the menu is an adventurous wine and cocktail program and a curated selection of locally produced spirits, agave spirits and house-made margaritas.

Ford says the interior will be bright and colorful, reminiscent of Texas dance halls and Hill Country cafes with a mix of vintage and new. Expect arcade games, music and an outdoor patio with a 1970s-inspired bar, string lights and nostalgic lounge chairs. Plans also call for a vintage, air stream-style satellite bar that will be open seasonally.

Designer Smith Hanes worked on the project.

Superica will operate in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as Covid-19 mandates in North Carolina, which currently limit restaurant capacity at 50%.

“As far as capacity goes, we just want to serve as many guests as we can accommodate safely,” Fry says.

The restaurant will be open daily, with brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
