A multifamily development and property management firm based in Gastonia is seeking to rezone land there for a new project.
The Gastonia Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Feb. 3 for a rezoning request from Southwood Realty Co. The firm is seeking to rezone 17.5 acres at Robinwood and Kendrick roads for a mixed-use project, commission documents state. If approved, the rezoning would allow for up to 194 apartments, 14 detached homes and 26,200 square feet of commercial space at the site.
Documents show the project would be named Palisades at Kendrick Crossroads.
The residential portion of the project would include nine apartment buildings and 14 "carriage-style" homes, site plans available in city records show. The apartments will include 72 one-bedroom units, 108 two-bedroom units and 14 three-bedroom units. The commercial element of the project includes parcels totaling 3.5 acres, with plans showing the potential for four retail buildings.
The city's planning staff has recommended approval of Southwood's rezoning request, according to a staff report available in commission documents.
Southwood was founded in 1977 and has its headquarters on South York Street in Gastonia, according to its website. The company's portfolio includes around 100 apartment communities that are mostly in the Carolinas but also holds assets in Georgia and Tennessee.
