Davidson-based Ingersoll Rand Inc. is looking for a new headquarters — but it isn’t looking far.
Spokeswoman Misty Zelent says the company is looking along the Interstate 77 corridor from Mooresville to Huntersville. That infers it’s a well-focused search along about 16 miles.
The company plans to leave its Beaty Street headquarters, where 450 people currently work, by mid-July, Zelent says. It is reconsidering its space after implementing remote-work policies in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Zelent says some employees may also be moved to its Charlotte Distribution and Logistics Center and its manufacturing facility in Mocksville.
“All other specifics are to be determined,” she says.
The Charlotte Ledger was first to report this morning that Ingersoll Rand was on the hunt for new space for its headquarters.
The current Ingersoll Rand (NYSE: IR) was formed in March 2020 when Gardner Denver Inc., then based in Milwaukee, acquired the industrial businesses of the old Ingersoll Rand, which is now climate-control company Trane Technologies (NYSE: TT).
After the merger, the new Ingersoll Rand shared space on the Beaty Street campus with Trane. Trane has significantly more space at the campus, where it houses 1,100 employees.
Trane Technologies spokeswoman Jennifer Regina says the company will once again occupy the space after Ingersoll Rand leaves. It is evaluating how it will use the additional square footage.
Trane Technologies continues to grow, she says, and is looking to build a “more collaborative space” and may have additional needs. Regina says Trane Technologies has no desire to move elsewhere.
“We’re really proud to have our North American headquarters in Davidson,” she says. “We continue to have nearly 1,100 people based in Davidson and several hundred more in the Charlotte area.
“Also, we anticipate more career opportunities in this area as we continue to grow."
