Atrium Health's top 10 executives made a combined $27.84 million in 2021, a 4% increase compared to the previous year.

Atrium Health's top 10 executives made a combined $27.84 million in 2021, according to an annual compensation report the health-care system released today.

That marks a roughly 4% increase compared to the previous year's totals.

Gene Woods, CEO at Atrium, was the top earner at $9.83 million, including $3 million in base salary, $3.8 million in bonus compensation and $1.3 million in incentives. He earned 24% more compared to 2020.

Atrium's diversity, inclusion and compensation committee sought third-party advisers to review compensation. Compensation for the top 10 executives comprises less than 0.5% of total compensation for all employees, Atrium said.

"As the world continues to combat the effects of Covid-19, the past two years have been filled with challenges — especially for health-care providers and front-line workers," the report reads. "Atrium Health is pleased to be in such a strong position as we continue to provide care with compassion and clinical excellence while growing strategically to bring health, hope and healing to each community we are privileged to serve."

Charlotte-based Atrium employs roughly 39,000 people in the Charlotte area.
